Course Clean Up
Large running events produce trash and discarded clothing along the route and we take course clean up seriously.
Our goal is to leave the route (bike path and roads) cleaner than how we found it. This means we also pick up non marathon related trash along the way.
We have each water station walk the route in both directions from their station to pick up trash. We then have two teams go through the course on foot. One team walks the Ojai portion of the course picking up all clothing and trash and the second team walks from Vons in Ojai down to Ventura. They will also pick up some trash that is not from the race and typically finish as it starts to get dark. Sometimes they go back on Monday morning to finish the last section.
On Monday/Tuesday we then ride the course looking for anything that may have been missed.
One important thing to note is there is a delay between the last runner and clean up because clean up takes much longer than someone running the race (walking and stopping to pick up trash and discarded clothing.)
If you see any trash on the course after Monday please take a picture and note the location and send us an email so we can come to clean it up. We try to get everything (and trash that was not from the race) but we may miss something and want to leave no trace.
Thanks!
