The Pasadena Pacers is the oldest running club in the San Gabriel Valley. In 1996, we assembled a group of 35 non-runners and trained for the LA Marathon. Since then, we have introduced over a thousand people to running and have trained for countless events.
While the Pacers began as a fitness initiative, we quickly realized how much people appreciate the social benefits of a club. Simply put, we are a group of people from different backgrounds who are drawn together by running. Think about it: When you leave your car wearing only your running gear, you shed the trappings that identify you with your “normal” life. In other words, the boundaries that can separate you from your fellow man are removed, creating a non-threatening environment where it is easy to get to know others. Many people who run with the Pacers make the comment, “This is the friendliest group of people!” And they are correct.
Four axioms that guide our program will help you to avoid injury and add joy to your personal journey. They are:
• Gradually increasing difficulty;
• Working out well below your ability level;
• Training with a group; and
• Raising the spirits of others in a motivating, positive environment.
With these principles in mind, we have developed several training programs to help you reach your goal—whether that means crossing the finish line in an upcoming race or just adopting a healthier lifestyle.
If you are new to running or have become de-conditioned due to low mileage or a hiatus, we recommend that you consider the slow, base-training approach. By progressing through the Pre-Conditioners and 10-Mile Challenge programs, you will establish a solid base before you segue to our Half Marathon, 20-Mile Challenge, or Full Marathon training programs, should you desire.
Team Lemon is Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation's national athletic program, inviting all athletes to make a difference in the lives of those affected by childhood cancer. Each race you run, walk, bike or swim can raise funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and will bring us that much closer to finding a cure for childhood cancers.
